Rachel Weisz joins Colin Firth in The Railway Man

Another serious dramatic role for Rachel Weisz comes in WWII PoW drama, The Railway Man

Setting the not-very-well received (and that’s putting it politely) Dream House aside, Rachel Weisz has stacked up a string of interesting roles of late. Working with David Hare, Terence Davies and Terrence Malick, Weisz is steadily cementing a reputation for serious drama which must make up for all that running around with Brendan Fraser she had to do in The Mummy franchise.

Now, Hollywood’s go-to woman for interesting, grown-up roles - or at least the ones for which Jessica Chastain is still on the wrong side of thirty five – Weisz has accepted the part of Colin Firth’s character’s wife in upcoming WWII drama The Railway Man.

Based on a true story, Firth will play Eric Lomax, a former prisoner of war forced to work on the “death railway” in former Burma. The Railway Man will be directed by relative unknown Jonathan Teplitzky and is due to start filming in Australia early next year.
