Joining the dubious company of Beastly and Red Riding Hood in the recent flurry of grown-up fairy tale films comes Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, starring Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner as the adult versions of the titular kids.

Fifteen years after their encounter with the gingerbread house, Hansel & Gretel are back as a duo of witch-fighting warriors, looking to cleanse the forests of evil old ladies living in bungalows made out of cake. Arterton has said of the film, “It’s kind of got a Quentin Tarentino

feel”, adding that Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola’s take on the story is “very, very dark, and bloodthirsty”.
