Bite me! Thousands of girls scream for Robert Pattinson as Twilight mania descends on London

They came in their thousands, scrawling messages on anything they could find to show their adoration for latest teen heart-throb Robert Pattinson.
One fanatic wrote: 'Bite Me' on her face, while another teenager scrawled on a piece of cardboard: 'You'll look at me with eyes that see and we'll melt into each other's arms.'
Battersea Park, South London, was engulfed in chaotic scenes as teenage fans battled to see Pattinson, who was attending a 'fan party' to celebrate the release of New Moon, the latest film in the Twilight series.
He plays Edward Cullen and his role is more limited this time, but the fans don't care.

On or off? Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart appear in London for a fan party to promote the new film in the Twilight series, New Moon
Already being touted as the next Hugh Grant, 23-year-old Pattinson is the star of the series of films, high school dramas about a teenage vampire.
Such is the popularity of the films, which are based on the books by US author Stephanie Meyer, that many are tipping the franchise to become even more successful than Harry Potter.
Around 2,000 hysterical fans- almost exclusively women - descended on south London and queued in freezing conditions to meet Pattinson and his co-star  Kristen Stewart, 19, who were hosting a question and answer session.

It was arranged to appease fans distraught that the film's makers had ditched plans for a London Premiere of the second film in the series.

A further 2,000 fans had been allowed inside the venue. They had beaten tens of thousands of other hopefuls after applying through the Twilight fansite.
Mere mention of his name was met with deafening screams from the crowd.

The reaction was extraordinary given that just six years ago, he was still a schoolboy with minor roles with a local amateur dramatic society.
He even had to take small time modelling jobs to find his education at the 13,500 pound a year Harrodian school in South West London.
Tonight's scenes were even more manic than last year when the first film premiered in London.
That film - released last November - made more the £50m pounds in its first three days at the box-office. It has since gone on to make more than £300million. Pattinson now has hundreds of fan sites dedicated to him.

Many fans had been camped outside the venue in Battersea Park since 8am yesterday morning with hundreds travelling from countries such as Bulgaria and Spain in a bid to meet Pattinson and the rest of the cast.
One fan, Elisa, 18, who arrived with a sign that read, 'Robert, bite me', said: 'I've come all the way from Spain and been here all day to try and make sure I got to the front. I'm obsessed with the films and the books.
'Robert is the most handsome man I've ever seen he's the main reason I'm here.'
The star is rumoured to be in a relationship with his co-star Kristen Stewart, who appeared underwhelming in a green skirt and top,  although the pair did not reveal anything as they walked the red carpet with Pattinson saying: 'It's speculative.'

Ms Stewart, 19, chose to concentrate on how they behaved on-screen. The actress said: 'Any good relationship that I've ever had with an actor has always been so emotional and personal. If you don't have that then you're just lying.'

A week before the release of the new movie,  the couple put on a public display of affection as they made their way to London.
Kristen and Robert left France holding hands yesterday, comfortably enough to suggest they have indeed become a couple.
New Moon
New Moon: Fans came from all over the world to queue in freezing temperatures
Up until now, they have denied rumours that they are anything more than friends, despite sharing some amazing on-screen chemistry.
But excited fans descended on a media event in Battersea this afternoon and will be fascinated to see if they reveal the true extent of their relationship.
British actor Robert recently admitted Kristen is only person he can talk to about the effects that their fame is having on them.
He told Heat magazine: 'It is strange. I was having dinner with her the other day and there was some magazine cover of us... because we've been so cut off, shooting in Vancouver, it's been such an insular existence.. you don't really notice what's going on.

Getting to grips: It was a very rare show of affection for the pair, who have tried to keep their romance out of the spotlight
'I said to her, "You realise that's actually a real magazine cover with us on it?" It sounds so stupid, but you are just amazed that people are actually talking about us like "Robert and Kristen".'
Kristen and Robert were joined by co-star Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black in the movie, and director Chris Weitz.
Taylor, 17, recently praised his co-star's acting abilities and told how pleased he was that the couple were able to build on the relationship they'd initiated in the first movie.

'Kristen has been absolutely amazing to work with,' Lautner said in an interview provided by studio Summit Entertainment.
'She's such a talented actress, so to be able to have her there with me all the time has just been great. The relationship between us is wonderful, and she's a lot of fun to have on set and be with me all the time.'
The cast had been in France to promote the sequel to hit movie Twilight which hit the big screen in 2008.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon is released next week and its stars have been hard at work promoting the film around the globe.
So far they have attended press calls across the U.S., Brazil, Japan and France and it already looks set to be a box-office smash when it hits the big screen next week.
Although there is no official premiere for the film, there were be special midnight screenings of the film in cinemas across the country before its general release on November 20.
